Staying in business while relocating-
One of the most amazing and yet challenging things is CHANGE. It gives you no signal and is full of surprises!
I am currently undergoing that transition and I am certain that some fashion designers are too, this is why I thought to curate a few pointers on mini maintenance even in your absence from my experience.
Today seems a bit serious but trust me I am grinning from ear to ear as I type my silly/ coolest decisions on bringing my fashion brand to Maple land! You need to charge your phones press dnd on this one. One thing is certain, you will be stressed and then there comes the gradual glory, the one you love the most!
The Big decision
Having finalized my preparations to travel I suddenly realized I hadn’t spoken to my team properly about the functionality of the workspace in my absence. It took me 10 solid years to build Adencollections, I wasn’t going to just shut it down! So heart-breaking so what did I do? I got into some research and he asked questions and involved people. I accepted my current situation and best the lemonade ever from it. You have to mentally accept where you are and then forge ahead from there, if not you will always have to look back with regrets for ever leaving.
People
We all need people, you need your team to stand in for you, you train them and must learn to trust that they handle the areas you can’.
Get your work together ,do a test run on how this will work, and let them sew the clothes while you make corrections. Know that for sure it might not be as perfect as when you are there but your business should never go below standard either.
Remember to take care of your workers too, your business is in their hands now, lol. Let them have a voice, show them that they are capable, earn their loyalty, and watch their commitment to your business goals rise.
Digital connections
This procedure became my go-to system ever since I moved to Canada, I communicate with my clients effectively through WhatsApp and Zoom, constantly assuring them of top service and for my brides we have in-depth discussions for their dresses, they sign contracts for some legal terms and then we proceed.
I ensure that my customers have the shopping experience for fabrics and their prices so they understand how far wide we go for them and I do this through video calls, I have my staff do the shopping, I send the videos of fabrics and customers choose and then we get to business, these outfits are meticulously made under my virtual supervision, constantly testing on mannequins or similar body sizes to our clients when they approve of it.
Transparency
At Adencollections, we believe in honesty and transparency, whatever is beyond me as the CEO, especially when I am not physically present, I simply let the client know will I lose business sometimes. Of course but my brand has a certain standard it can’t go below and this has always been the uniqueness of my brand.
The Future
I have been in Canada for a few months now and still learning the fashion sense of the locals however I have made a few outfits for people here while in school and the feedback has been awesome.
I am looking forward to having my first summer sales and yes you saw it here first because you are keeping up with my blog posts and I appreciate that, lol.
